Privacy Policy
jomo is an app and website (www.jomo.kids) that childcare centers use to work with the families they care for. This policy explains what information jomo handles, why, who it's shared with, and the choices you have. "jomo", "we" and "us" mean Shannon Walters, who provides jomo.
jomo and your center
jomo runs on behalf of the childcare center you work at or your family uses. The center decides what is recorded about a child and which of its staff can see it. We store and process that information to provide jomo to the center. For a question about a child's records, the center is usually the place to start; we'll help too.
Information we collect
We collect what you and your center enter into jomo, and a little technical information needed to run it:
- Account details: name, email address, phone number, profile photo and your role. Passwords are handled by our sign-in provider and never stored by us in readable form.
- Family and child details: a child's name, date of birth, room and photo; allergies, medical and dietary notes; emergency contacts and authorized pickups; home address, enrollment details and documents.
- Care records: check-in and check-out times; posts about meals, naps, activities, moods and notes, with photos and videos; late, absent and out-sick notices; reminders and calendar events.
- Messages between families and center staff, with their attachments.
- Billing: invoices, amounts and payment status. Card details you enter to pay an invoice go straight to Stripe; jomo never receives or stores full card numbers.
- Enrollment applications: what an applicant enters on a center's online form, which can include household, employment and demographic questions the center chooses to ask.
- Technical information: a push notification token and device type so we can deliver notifications, and server logs (such as IP address, browser and error details) when you use jomo.
Location, camera and your device
If you allow it, the iPhone app uses your location while the app is open to estimate your travel time to the center and to offer check-in when you're nearby. Apple Maps calculates the travel time, and the comparison with the center's location happens on your device. Your location is never sent to jomo or to the center.
The camera is used only to scan pickup pass codes, and those images aren't stored or sent. jomo reads only the photos and files you choose to share, and adds events to your calendar only when you ask. Summaries written with Apple Intelligence are made on your device.
How we use information
To provide jomo: showing families their child's day, running attendance and pickup, delivering messages, notifications and service emails (such as invitations and sign-in codes), handling invoices and enrollment, keeping jomo secure, preventing misuse, fixing problems and meeting legal obligations.
We don't sell personal information, share it for targeted advertising, or use it to build advertising profiles. jomo shows no ads and contains no third-party tracking.
Who can see it
Inside a center, its staff and administrators see the information they need to care for children. The guardians on a family's account see their own child's records. A post about one child is shown to that child's family; a post for a whole room is shown to the families of the children in that room. Information is never shown to other organizations that use jomo. Authorized pickup contacts are records the center keeps; they don't get access to jomo.
Service providers
We use these companies to run jomo. Each handles information only to provide its service to us, under terms that require it to protect that information:
- Vercel: hosting the website and storing photos and files
- Neon: the database
- Clerk: sign-in and accounts
- Stripe: invoice payments. Stripe also records how its payment form is used, to prevent fraud and improve it
- Pusher: delivering live updates
- Resend: sending email
- Inngest: running scheduled and background tasks
- Sentry: reporting errors so we can fix them
- Apple: push notifications, Apple Wallet passes, Maps and weather
Other disclosures
We may disclose information when the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a transfer of jomo to a new provider, who would have to keep this policy's promises for the information it receives.
How long we keep it
We keep information while the center uses jomo and the account exists, and as long as the center needs it to meet its record-keeping obligations. When an account is deleted, or a center stops using jomo and asks us to, we delete the information from our systems, except what the law requires us to keep, such as payment records. Deleted information can remain in backups for a short time until they are replaced.
Your choices
- See and update your details in your profile at any time.
- Delete your account in the app, from Profile (on the web, Profile → Privacy & security). Your sign-in, name, contact details, address and profile photo are deleted straight away, you're signed out everywhere, and pickup passes you issued stop working. Messages, posts and care records you added stay with the center as its records, shown as from “Deleted user”.
- You can also ask us to delete your account by emailing hello@jomo.kids from your account's email address; we'll do it within 45 days. An organization's only admin needs to make someone else an admin first, or ask us to close the center's account.
- Ask what information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, by email. We won't treat you differently for asking.
- Turn off notifications, location or camera access at any time in your device's Settings.
Do Not Track
jomo doesn't track you across other sites or apps, so it works the same way whether or not your browser sends a Do Not Track signal.
Children
jomo is used by adults: parents, guardians and childcare staff. It holds information about children that their guardians and center provide so the center can care for them. Children don't use jomo, and we don't knowingly collect information directly from a child under 13. If you think a child has given us information, tell us and we'll delete it.
Security and storage
jomo encrypts information in transit, limits access by center and role, and leaves passwords to a dedicated sign-in provider. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your information, we'll tell you as the law requires. jomo's information is stored in the United States.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, we'll post the new version here with a new effective date. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
